01/17/2007 - Anaheim, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Curtis Sanford made 30 saves and six different St. Louis players scored, as the Blues easily defeated the NHL-leading Anaheim Ducks, 6-2, at Honda Center.
Eric Brewer tallied a goal and two assists for the Blues, who have won four of their last five and 10 of their last 14 games overall (10-2-2). Keith Tkachuk scored his seventh goal in the last 10 games and Doug Weight, Petr Cajanek, Dallas Drake and Jamal Mayers also scored in the win.
"We are playing good hockey," said Weight. We've dug ourselves quite a hole, but we are on the way back."
Teemu Selanne and Corey Perry scored for Anaheim, which fell to 2-3-2 in 2007.
Ilya Bryzgalov allowed four goals on 13 shots and was pulled midway through the game in favor of Sebastien Caron, who made five saves in 28-plus minutes of action.
The Blues were in total control from start to finish and scored the first five goals of the game, including one in the first period and four more in the second.
"The guys were focused from the start," Sanford said. "We had good power plays and good penalty kills. This is something to build on."
Brewer began the offensive explosion with a power-play goal at 7:44 of the first period. Cajanek sent a pass from behind the net on the left side into the goal mouth for an easy one-timer by Brewer.
The floodgates were then officially opened in the second stanza with four goals.
First, 1:14 into the period, Cajanek took Radek Dvorak's pass from the bottom of the right circle and slid home a one-timer from the low slot. Four minutes later, a very similar goal made it 3-0.
Martin Rucinsky gained the blue line on a 2-on-1 rush down the right-wing side. At the bottom of the circle, Rucinsky made a complete stop and slid a quick pass across the crease before Weight redirected the disc into the back of cage.
Midway through the period, a rocket by Tkachuk created a four-goal margin. The Blues cycled the puck in their offensive zone and it was eventually held by Dvorak along the left half-wall. Dvorak slid a soft pass back to the centerpoint, where Tkachuk absolutely unloaded on a sizzling one-timer that knocked both Bryzgalov's water bottle into the air and the netminder out of the game.
"They were a little flat and we jumped on them," said Tkachuk. "We won the battles tonight."
With 2:33 to play, the second-period uprising was capped by Mayers, who streaked down the right-wing side while short-handed and beat Caron clean from the circle.
The Ducks scored two goals in the third period, but it was not nearly enough. Perry's high wrister from near the left post made it 5-1 at 7:24 and Selanne scored his 29th goal with eight minutes to play before an empty-netter by Drake at 16:22 completed the scoring.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year
Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.
Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.
With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.
Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.
Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
